Sloshbucklers

GMTK Game Jam 2020 Entry

We made this game from concept to release within 48 hours. The gimmick to fit the theme was to have the player's pirate get progressively drunker or "sloshed" as they progressed further in the game.

About the Game

Sloshbucklers was originally conceptualized as a multiplayer arcade game in which players would play through themed minigames, but the winning player's controls would get more difficult. The idea was the winner would take a celebratory drink and that would add multipliers to the winner's controls such as delays or extra acceleration. It was a balancer for players that were not good at the game, but it would also work as an incentive as the sloshed player would gain bonus points for winning with the curve.

Overall, this original multiplayer idea was scrapped at the start of the jam for scope reasons. Fortunately, we may revive this project and continue to develop this in the future, so stay tuned for that! What the game is now is a single player survival game in which the objective is to load the cannons and fend off invaders. We went for an Overcooked type of chaos and it worked decently.

If we were to continue development, I would like to add an instructions or tutorial phase first.

I worked on design, production and minor art assets on this game.
