A Global Game Jam 2020 Entry

Duel It Yourself (DIY) was developed within 48 hours by a team of 11. Although there were a lot of people, this was most of the team members' first game jam. I took on the role of Lead designer and producer. I wanted this game jam to be a learning experience for everyone involved and get them excited to participate in more jams in the future. Essentially, I wanted to help them overcome the fear of "not knowing enough" or "not being good enough".


DIY was originally conceptualized as a VR project for a separate assignment, but it did not come to fruition until later.  With that said, we re-envisioned this game as a quick, competitive arcade game for Global Game Jam. Overall I had a great time with the team.

The game was inspired by the idea of Legos and building the biggest structure you could to show off to other people. Players would build guns simultaneously by pressing a sequence of keys to build a part until their gun was completely built. Then they would aim and fire and the first one to hit 3 times would win. We added gravity into the game as an equalizer in order to give slower players a chance to attack the faster players. Gravity affects the trajectory of the bullets shot and after every hit or miss, players would have to rebuild their gun to fire again.
